Martinez Named State Conservationist for Wyoming

Astrid Martinez, seated at right, has been named the new state conservationist for Wyoming. Following the tradition of the Equality State, she will become the first female state conservationist in Wyoming.

National Water Quality Initiative

The focus of this initiative is to reduce sediment and nutrient flow from cropland fields into Ocean Lake in Fremont County. Deadline for applications is May 18, 2012. If any funds remain, additional applications received by June 15, 2012 will also be considered.

Emergency Watershed Protection on the Popo Agie River

In 2011, 17 Emergency Watershed Protection projects in six Wyoming counties were completed to protect and save irrigation structures, homes, a subdivision, private bridges, and access roads.

USDA Reaches out to Women and Hispanics

Women and Hispanic farmers and ranchers who believe that the United States Department of Agriculture improperly denied farm loan benefits to them between 1981 and 2000 because they are Hispanic, or because they are female, may be eligible to apply for compensation.

Conservation on Wind River Indian Reservation

A soil survey and range inventory on two million acres of Tribal land was recently completed. This will help with improved range health and irrigation water management practices.
