1997 NATIONAL RESOURCES INVENTORY- WYOMING

Chart of Average Annual Wind Erosion on Cultivated Cropland 1992 and 1997

Soil loss due to wind erosion in 1997 on the majority of the cultivated cropland in Wyoming is low.  For the most of the cultivated cropland, the ability of the soils to renew themselves and sustain productivity was greater than the amount of soil loss from wind erosion in 1997.

The percent of acres of cultivated cropland undergoing a rate of wind erosion greater than the ability of the soils to renew themselves decreased during the period from 1992 to 1997.

The soil loss tolerance value represents the amount of soil that can be lost to erosion annually with the soil maintaining its potential to produce food and fiber.  The number 2T represents 2 times the soil loss tolerance value, 3T represents 3 times the soil loss tolerance value, and so forth.
