Section 11 - Crop Rotations and Yield Goals

This section is for record-keeping. For each field, keep track of last year's crop, next year's crop and the yield goal for it.

Crop Rotations and Yield Goals

A realistic yield goal is critical to correctly calculating manure application rates.  One way to determine a realistic yield goal is to take the last 5 years yields, discard the high and low values, average the 3 remaining yields, and add 5 to 10% for varietal improvement and/or favorable weather conditions.  Realistic yield goals are critical to accurately calculating a manure application rate.  Applying manure for a 30 ton corn silage crop when long-term average yields are only 22 tons, will over apply nutrients.
