UINTA COUNTY EQIP PROGRAM
How EQIP is being implemented in the county:
The Uinta County Local Work Group has identified the following
natural resource concerns as the top priority:
1. Grazing land Health
This local priority supports the national priority to reduce soil erosion and
sedimentation from agricultural lands and promote at risk species habitat.
Grazing land impacted by the ongoing drought was identified by the work group as
high priorities for Uinta County. Applications for dependable water developments
as an alternative to live water and Brush control treatments as part of a
rotational grazing system will be given the highest priority. Spring
developments or wells with tanks will be given priority over earthen pits or
dikes. A properly planned and applied grazing system is the most effective
strategy to prepare for drought, adapt management during drought, and help
recover from drought.
2. Ground and Surface water quality affected by animal waste
This local priority supports the national priority to reduce non-point source
pollution in impaired waterbodies. Waste management systems, feedlot relocation,
and nutrient management will be targeted in an effort to help producers avoid
regulation, and improve water quality.
3. Irrigation Water Management
This local priority supports the national priority of conservation of ground and
surface water. Improved irrigation efficiencies are crucial in dealing with
critical water shortages and salinity control. Practices that improve efficiency
through conveyance and delivery systems for more than one operation will be
given priority. Priority will also be given to planned irrigation systems that
improve on-farm efficiencies.
Fund Pools:
The County EQIP funds will be allocated to the priority resource
concerns as follows:
The local work group recommended that 60% of funds will go toward livestock related projects and 40%
toward irrigation related projects. This is intended to stimulate more interest in range
projects, since the majority of applications are for irrigation projects.
