JOHNSON COUNTY EQIP PROGRAM

How EQIP is being implemented in the county:

The Johnson County Local Work Group has identified the following natural resource concerns as priorities.

Grazing land Health
This local priority supports the national priority to reduce soil erosion and sedimentation from agricultural lands and promote at risk species habitat. The Johnson County local work group has set the 1st priority to be for integrated pest management within the Double Crossing and Thomson Creek drainages in order to complete this project area. Grazing land impacted by the ongoing drought was identified by the work group as high priority. A properly planned and applied grazing system is the most effective strategy to prepare for drought, adapt management during drought, and help recover from drought. Applications for dependable water development will be given the next highest priority, for implementation of a planned grazing system.

Ground and Surface water quality affected by animal waste

Improved irrigation efficiencies are crucial in dealing with critical water shortages and irrigation water induced erosion. The Johnson County local work groups priority is improve irrigation water management in highly erodible soils for soil and water conservation.
