CAMPBELL COUNTY EQIP PROGRAM
How EQIP is being implemented in
Campbell
County:
The Campbell County Local Work Group has identified grazing land health and
ground and surface water quality affected by animal waste as top priority
natural resource concerns.
Grazing Land Health
This local priority supports the national priority to reduce soil
erosion and sedimentation from agricultural lands.
Grazing lands have been impacted by the ongoing drought thus diminishing
sources of reliable livestock water.
Grazing lands impacted by fires in past years are in need of creative grazing
management to allow for recovery of damaged lands and minimize soil erosion.
Applications for development of dependable livestock water and other
practices that will protect damaged land will be given the highest priority. A
functioning grazing system that is flexible and results in grazing distribution
is an effective strategy to long term grazing land health.
Ground and surface water quality
affected by animal waste
This local priority supports the national priority to reduce non-point source
pollution in impaired water bodies. Livestock operations needing assistance to
improve water quality and to avoid regulation will be given the highest
priority.
Eligible practices and cost share rates:
The local work group has approved the statewide practice list and cost share
list.
A screening tool is being used to screen high priority applications from
medium and low priority applications. A ranking sheet will then be used to
determine the order of funding of high priority applicants.
