Lower Wind Watershed
October 2005 Description of WatershedThe total estimated area in the
watershed is 1,092,791 acres. The majority of the watershed is in Fremont
County, Wyoming and includes part of the Wind River Indian Reservation. The watershed also extends into small portions of
Hot Springs and Natrona counties in Wyoming. There are approximately 176 farms and ranches in the watershed according to the 2000 census. There are actually over 400 operations. Primary crops include small grains, corn, beans, beets, and alfalfa hay. Rangeland covers 997,390 acres of the watershed. Ranches are mostly cow/calf and some yearling operations. There are also several Tribal operations in the watershed. Land Cover/Use

Payment InformationApplicants must address water quality and soil quality concerns as program eligibility criteria and enrollment will be targeted to those demonstrating the highest levels of stewardship. CPS payment limitations will be based on three "tiers" that represent increasing levels of resource treatment. Payments rise with increased levels of treatment.
