Lower Laramie Watershed

Description of Watershed

The total estimated area in the watershed is 1,492,963 acres. This watershed is located in Albany, Platte, Goshen, and Laramie Counties in Southeast Wyoming.

The land uses in this watershed consist of rangeland, dry cropland, irrigated cropland and hayland.  The topography varies from high elevation rough foothills and high plains in the West to gentle sloping and fairly level grasslands to the East.  The soils range from loam and fine sandy loams in the low elevations to rocky foothills.  

There are approximately 377 farms and ranches in the watershed.  Cropland covers about 142,670 acres.  Primary crops include corn, alfalfa hay, and small grains.  Rangeland covers 1,346,852 acres of the watershed.  Ranches are mostly cow/calf and yearling operations.
