watershed is 682,868 acres. This watershed is located in Albany and Laramie Counties in
Southeast Wyoming, Kimball County, Nebraska, and Weld County, Colorado.
The land uses in this watershed consist of rangeland, dry cropland, irrigated
crop and hayland and pastureland. The watershed includes the Rocky Mountain
foothills with mountains and valleys on the western side at about 8200 feet to
gently sloping cropland at 5000 feet on the eastern side. The topography ranges
from steep limestone ashe juniper covered hills in the north to mixed brush and
mesquite covered plains to the south. The soils range from shallow and rocky in
the west to rolling and nearly level medium textured loams in the east.
There are approximately 285 farms and ranches in the watershed. Cropland
covers about 246,757 acres. Primary crops include winter wheat, spring
grains, corn, beans, beets, and alfalfa hay. Approximately ten percent of
the cropland is irrigated, mostly by sprinklers with groundwater.
Rangeland covers 420,786 acres of the watershed. Ranches are
mostly cow/calf and some yearling operations.
